Broken Bayou
by Jennifer Moorhead

book cover

I enjoyed the mystery and thrill of this book! There was a lot suspense and backstory. I like the way it was written as well. You suspected/predicted a lot of different characters throughout the book but that’s the fun! Creepy vibes in the bayou with lots of murder.

Very disjointed reading. Some history then lots of conversations various people. Difficult to follow.

I read this book to fill the "National Book Award' winner square on my SRP Bingo card. I don't typically read graphic novels, but I did enjoy the graphics and all of the artwork. It was also fun [scary] to return to Middle School and the related insecurities and social awkwardness. This was a fun trip through Europe!

Typical Harlequin plot. Good plot involving spies, multiple countries and intrigue. Good guy geta the gurl and bad guys die. Plot twists with a good ending

Time & Tide - A Walk Through Nantucket
by Frank Conroy

I chose this for my memoir book square, as I know virtually nothing about Nantucket and Frank Conroy. I found it to be very informative. The author obviously loved the island and his personal stories helped to bring it to life for me. I was glad that it was only ~200 pages!!

Becoming Free Indeed
by Jinger Vuolo

This book was a very repetitive read. Jinger explained the concepts of IBLP and Gothard over and over, just in a slightly different way. She would occasionally mix in some personal background information. It wasn’t until the last two chapters that I slightly enjoyed the read. They were more personal and less sermon-like. It would have been a better read if she hadn’t gone back to the same information various times.

The Professor & The Coed -- Scandal & Murder at The Ohio State University

I read about this on the Facebook page of my other SRP. It intrigued me, was available digitally, and was a square I needed [Set at a University]. It was a quick read with lots of historical information. I also liked being familiar with the locations where the crime occurred. The extensive newspaper coverage and the many pictures of the 1929 event included in the book helped to hold my interest. I had never heard of this crime nor of the convicted killer-Dr. James Howard Snook, OSU Professor of Veterinary Medicine. A fun fact - Dr. Snook invented the 'snook hook' - a tool used in spaying animals. It is still in use.

I struggled to complete this book. I did not like the main character at all and was very tempted to quit reading numerous times. I did become more involved in the last quarter or so of it and was somewhat surprised at the outcome.
