5 authors. 5 mysteries. Interesting but not inspiring me to read further books by these authors

The Plot And The Pendulum

I have read and enjoyed a couple of other books from this "A Library Lover's Mystery" series. This was also a light and fun read. I especially enjoyed the spooky house with the hidden/secret room in the library and the vanishing beautiful cat [I was happy that Lindsey chose to adopt the cat--now named 'Zelda'.]

Gracefully Grayson
by Ami Polonsky

Polonsky's debut novel features a sixth grader who has felt like a 'girl' on the inside for most of his life. Throughout the book, we see Grayson struggle to gain the confidence to transform into who she is meant to be. The mix of both positive and negative characters made this a very moving book.

I read this to fill the "Popular book from 2023 SRP" square. I struggled through it and did not enjoy it. I just now read a blip from 'Goodreads': "The debut cookbook from inspiring and hilarious New York Times bestselling author....". I personally wasn't into it at all and did not think it was funny.

The Housemaid Is Watching

As the third book in the series, I was skeptical at first. I read the first book in a day, then wasn’t too impressed with the second in comparison. However, this book exceeded my expectations and I liked it more than the second! It had a few twists and turns, but I was able to predict a couple of them. Overall, a good read that I couldn’t put down!

The Truth About the Devlins
by Lisa Scottoline

I have read and enjoyed most of Scottoline's works over the years and this is no exception. I especially found some of the historical facts interesting and disturbing [e.g. the medical experiments conducted on prisoners at the Holmesburg Prison in Philadelphia in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s].

Icebreaker

This was a great, quick read! It kept me wanting to read and I couldn’t put it down. I loved Stassie and Nate’s relationship and storyline. Even though it was about college students, I loved the characters and will definitely be reading the second book. I hope the next book follows some of their hockey friends next!
